Doctors, nutritionists and dietitians will rightly advise you that losing weight too quickly over a sustained period is not good for your health. Rapid weight loss can even have serious health consequences. Yet many people still go in search of that magical crash diet formula that will help them to lose weight in no time at all.

A crash diet is an eating regime that involves making extreme alterations to the amount food and drink consumed, over a length of time. This usually a rapid deprivation of the number of calories consumed, by simply not eating, not eating regularly, or eating or drinking something over a period of time i.e. the cabbage water diet...believe us, it is out there.

But these people are not the end of the line certainly. If you are not that content with what came out of the discussions at the forums and the message boards, you can surely check it with an expert to verify about the crash diets that work. They have probably been in the market for some time and they know their thing (as a safety measure, do check their credentials in their author bio). Crash dieting should last no longer than 2 weeks. If this time is exceeded there is a possibility of suffering from iron deficiencies long term. After two weeks of crash dieting, if you are still not happy with the results and want to lose more weight, you must still increase your calorie intake; however this should be done by eating healthier foods. Your body craves calories and will possibly result in you binge eating! Of course this is to be avoided at all costs as it is clearly not good for your body and will reverse all of your hard work with your diet so far!

The first tip is do not crash diet for more than three to seven days. That is pretty good tip seeing how you are starving yourself. When you cut calorie intake your body need to get these lost calories from somewhere. Your body will burn some of your body fat, but it will also burn your muscle. This is one of the biggest issues with crash diets because muscle loss will lead to a slower metabolism. This will lead to you to gaining your fat back and in many cases gaining more fat!

Drastically reducing or stopping eating puts you at risk. Crash diets are extremely dangerous for your heart, kidneys, liver, and brain because you lose lean tissue around them. If you don't eat enough, your body will actually burn the muscle tissue of the organs themselves to provide your brain with sufficient energy to function. This puts you at risk for liver and kidney failure, heart attack and stroke and even death. Crash diets cause extreme food cravings, causing you to gain weight. You may become dizzy or uncoordinated. You will probably sleep more as your body conserves energy. You may develop iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B12 or potassium and sodium deficiency. The latter two play an important role in regulating the way that your heart beats. If their levels become too low, you could have a heart attack.

The alternative to a crash diet is to use your head and think scientifically. We need to take a page from the fat loss book of models and body builders. These folks have known for years the secret to fast fat loss. And that secret is using our body's own hormones to burn the fat. Yep. The key is in the hormones that we have running around our bodies. There are two basic sorts those that 'store' fat and those that 'burn' fat
